Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) causes the genetic susceptibility of the male hormone. DHT inflammation process, combined with the shortening of the hair during the anagen period causes thinning and weakening of the hair; which eventually leads to hair loss. In as much as it is known to be carried by the X chromosome, this genetic condition comes from both the paternal and maternal genes. For genetic hair loss in men to occur, factors like hormones, age and genes all together play a role. The hair loss process starts at puberty.

The nature of hair loss is very easy to diagnose thanks to the densitometer. Dermatoscopic examination ensures precise diagnosis of the presence of miniaturization. However some common cases of hair loss can also be occur due to some diseases or use of some medication. In such cases, several diagnostic tests must be done to establish the main cause.
